hands tightly griping the handlebars. and they were off! for a girl who learned to ride a bike without falling once, it was very important to me that i keep my balance, and keep it well. unfortunately, doing so wasn't quite as easy as saying it. the motorcycle, small as it was, must weigh at least twice as much as i did. i couldn't even hold it up. you don't have to hold it up, you know. you just have to drive it, my oh so trying to be helpful dad said. sure, easy as pie. after mastering the balancing act comes driving of course. accelerating, braking, turning. needless to say, it was like riding a horse. not that i have ever ridden a horse, seeing how smelly and huge they are, but i guess that's the best way to describe it. like riding an angry horse doing its best to buck you off. yes, a hundred kilo horse that will bury you under it if you so much as lose focus. or speed. bury me it did. and thus end my first day of driving lessons. |
